======= Entry 15 ===========August 5th 2010: THE LAST UPDATE
   Alright! Are you all ready to meet your fellow PKD fans, listen to some great speakers, party and have some fun in the Rocky mountains next week? I AM! So let's get this show on the road! See you next Thursday night for the pre-festival gathering at The Last Shot or at the opening address on Friday at 10AM, also at the Last Shot.
   And we've added another sponsor!  Mpingo Fine African Handicrafts. Located in Boulder you can visit their website here:
www.mpingo.com . This is African art from Tanzania and they give back to their community in Dar es Salaam by funding local educational projects there.
   I also want to mention that I've watched Enrique Stone's half-hour long, PKD-inspired film, NIA, which we shall be showing at the Gilpin Library on Saturday afternoon. Very professional!
   And thanks again to all our sponsors and all the people over the world who have wished us well.

======= Entry 14 ============ July 27, 2010

   And... We've added two more sponsors!  The Mountain Mocha Coffee Shop in Black Hawk - next to the Post Office on State Hiway 279 just off 119 as you come into town from the north. ======== entry 12 ================== July 1, 2010
======= Entry 10 =============== July 1, 2010

  As we get closer to the festival days there is so much going on! We've had to discard the Gilpin Fairgrounds complex because it was too large, too unmanageable and we weren't able to sell enough booths. So, although this would be a great place for the festival, unfortunately we can't do it. So, instead we shall make The Last Shot Bar & Restaurant one of our main locations. The other will be the town of Nederland, with events at The Artist's Niche in the center of town. I'm working on the event schedule and should have it done soon. Thank you all for your continuing support and see you soon!

======= Entry 11 ================ June 15, 2010
     We're happy to add Frank Hollander to our list of Speakers! Frank is one of those PKD scholars who you find in the footnotes of many sources. He's the one who cleared up the whole 'Did PKD really survive on cat food?' question and he is active in the Gutenberg Project.
     I've been out fundraising these last few days as we progress towards paying for everything. We've added two new sponsors just yesterday: Blue Owl Books in Nederland and The Coffee Shop in Black Hawk. I'll be writing more about these place and more soon!

======= Entry 10 ================ June 7, 2010
     I spent this last weekend with friends in the mountain town of Ward, Colorado. I met lots of old friends at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Millsite Inn. My good friend, Squid, who is a great drummer, has gladly accepted my offer to play at the PKD Festival! Another friend and great guitarist is Jordan and he and his band 'J Train' are also happy to play for the assembled multitude of PKD fans! We thank both Squid and Jordan for their support.
   And we have added another speaker to our already stellar lineup! This is Erik Davis, already known by many PKD fans for his writings on our favorite author. Check out the
'Speakers' page for  more on Erik. Thanks Erik!
      So, everything is almost set and we are now in the money-raising stage. If you would like to contribute please send a cheque or money order to: Dave Hyde, PKD Festival Host, PO Box 293, Ward, CO 80481. Thanks to you all for your support!

A KINDRED SPIRIT by E. J. Morgan
======= Entry 9 ================ June 2, 2010
         The interview on KGNU went well, I was able to talk about the PKD festival during a program on Celtic music! During June I shall talk again on KGNU radio. They also stream the audio online for a couple of weeks after the event, so check kgnu.org
      At this time we are making a push for sponsors, vendors, donors, volunteers, artists, contributions to our charity and door prizes. Please contact me with your ideas. Thank you.
        The poster contest is still in effect and we will likely use all designs so, please, design a PKD Festival Poster and send it to artistsniche.org
        An intergalactic first will occur at the festival! Author E.J. Morgan will debut her novel A KINDRED SPIRIT at the festival. This is a novel with Philip K. Dick in the afterlife, settling a few things before he can move on. PKD's friend, Bishop Pike, also makes an appearance and this should be a fascinating novel. You can buy your limited-edition PKD Festival copy of E.J. Morgan's A KINDRED SPIRIT only at the festival! The author herself will be here to sign copies.

======= Entry 8 ================ May 18, 2010
        Sam Umland, Professor of English at The University of Nebraska is joing our excellent line up of speakers. Sam will speak on THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE. Thanks Sam, and welcome aboard!
       We have enlisted the support of THE STAGE STOP bar & Restaurant in Rollinsville. This is another great mountain restaurant with lots of room inside and out and a great view of the mountains. Ron and Margie, owners of THE STAGE STOP are pleased to welcome Philip K. Dick fans to their fine establishment during the festival. Thanks Ron and Margie!
       Another great addition to our supporters is THE ARTIST'S NICHE in Nederland. This is a collective of local artists - photographers, painters, jewelers, sculptors and designers, who are busily working away behind the scenes to make the PKD Festival art show and charity auction a success. Thanks guys! Check out the Artist's Niche website at artistsniche.org. They are also helping us with our festival poster and are running a contest to select the best poster design.
        On May 26th about 7pm Mountain Standard Time. I shall be interviewed on KGNU radio in Boulder, Colorado. I shall have lots of time to talk about the festival and inform the listerners in the Boulder area. Tune in! KGNU.org
        Lots more going on as we progress towards the festival days in August. Spread the word!

======= Entry 7 ================ April 20, 2010
     Lord Running Clam (Festival Host) met with The Rev. Eggplant Jones in Central City yesterday. The Rev. is a big PKD fan and has volunteered his services to the PKD Festival. He will be helping us organize events in Central City / Black Hawk. Thank you Rev. Eggplant Jones for your enthusiasm!
    We have also been talking to various businesses and individuals in Nederland and are signing up new businesses in Ned to participate in the Festival. In this great little mountain town we have also found some artists who will display their work at the various Festival locations. More on this soon!
   Also, I shall be interviewed about the Festival on KGNU radio in Boulder in the next week or two. More details as we get closer to this date.
   Vendor booth information is now online and can be found here: VENDORS

======= Entry 6 ================ April 8, 2010

   THE LAST SHOT: Roy, the owner of The Last Shot restaurant and bar is all fired up about the PKD Festival and has offered us the use of his establishment during the festival and the time leading up to it. This is good news for us as The Last Shot is a huge place with internal seating over 230 people and large patios outside where we shall hold relaxed meetings and have at least one evening party here. (It will be here and only here at The Last Shot that you will be able to order such fine beverages as Pink Beams and other concoctions of the bartender's art!)
  Check out The Last Shot website and if you're in the neighborhood stop in for a great meal!
  The Last Shot website also has a fine expandable map of the festival area. Zoom in and out to see exactly where we're at (The Last Shot is only 4 or 5 miles from the main festival location at the Gilpin County Fairgrounds)
  We are also in discussions with several other area businesses and will have more information soon. Please keep an eye on this website as we progress.

  Local hip-hop musician 'Intravenous' and his band 'Proof of Life' has offered their musical services to us at the PKD Festival! We shall take IV up on his offer and are pleased to announce to the PKD fans that a vibrant local hip hop artist and his friends will be entertaining us during the festival. Here's IV's facebook link: Proof Of Life.

======= Entry 5 ================ March 26, 2010

   Thanks to the efforts of PKD fan Michael Fisher in Indianapolis we have fixed the problems with the website! No more bleed-over from Stateside Nursing International!
    I've added a page for Paul Williams to the site and designated Paul as the PKD fan most deserving of our fund-raising and sales efforts. As much as we can raise at the festival we shall send to Paul's family.
   We've added Kitty Gainer's video company, Filmhaus from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina as the official PKD Festival videography company. We look forward to seeing Kitty and her team in August!
   Our friend, Daniel Forthuber, of Nederland, Colorado is a still photographer who has worked as a commercial and production photographer for many years. Dan will be taking the photographs at our 'fest.
   All God's children gotta eat! And we are especially pleased to welcome Sherri Spitz of Ward, Colorado as Chief Cook and non-bottle washer. All festival guests will be satisfactorily stuffed with wholesome mountain food at the main festival site. We are very fortunate indeed to have Sherri!
   I've added a page titled 'Festival Shop'. This page displays items which will be for sale at the Festival Shop. At this point we have lots of little booklets from Lord Running Clam, Frank C. Bertrand and Guy Salvidge. We hope to add more soon! Also coming soon: some artwork!
   Thanks to sterling work by our international PKD fans we now have versions of the Festival website in Polish, Spanish and German! Look to our 'International' page to find this information.
    I've added a better map of the main festival sites.
   Lastly, a reminder: Remember the movie Total Recall where Arnold gets the phone message and the video terminal plays over and over the message, "Get your ass to Mars! Get your ass to Mars!"? Well, the message playing over from here is get your ass to Colorado this August! Get your ass to Colorado this August! See you at the Festival!

======= Entry 4 ================ March 11, 2010

    We are still experiencing problems with the Festival website but we've had some generous offers of help with this from web-savvy Dickheads and hope to have a better website in place soon. (Please ignore and references to 'nurse recruitment' on this site - unless you are a nurse or doctor looking for a job then, please, contact pat@statesideinternational.com and she will endeavor to place you in a hospital or healthcare facility in the USA and the world!).
   We're still in negotiations with several hotels in Black Hawk and Nederland, Colorado for the best room rates for our attendees. Black Hawk (where I live) is Colorado's premier gambling town. Lots of casinos, hotels and restaurants here!
   Nederland is a great little mountain town that has just hosted its 9th 'Frozen Dead Guy Days' festival. I attended this and it was great fun with people diving into frozen water holes cut in the ice of the town's lake, coffin races, pub crawls and many other fun events. About 8000 people attended this year's 'Frozen Dead Guy Days'.
   I'm also in constant commuications with PKD fans worldwide, spreading the news about the PKD conference and festival and as more news becomes finalized I will include it in this website.
   In international news we've had lots of interest from fans in many countries and we hope to welcome them to the festival in August. At the least for our international fans we shall set up live videoconferencing during the festival. More on this later.
   With the help of more fans I'm preparing books, pamphlets, zines and artworks for sale at the Festival. As these reach completion I will post details on this website.
   I want to thank everyone for their positive support for this venture and ask you all to SPREAD THE WORD!

=======Entry 3 ================= Feb 24, 2010

   By this date we have reserved the main festival site. This is the Gilpin County Fairgrounds complex near Black Hawk, Colorado. A great place with lots of indoor and outdoor room for many festival events. I am at the moment conferring with hotels in this area for the best room deals for PKD Festival attendees. As soon as I have final details I will post them on this website.
   Camping: This is Colorado and in the PKD Festival area there are many campgrounds available for those who like to camp out while attending the festival. Costs are reasonable (about $15 per day but I will find out for sure once the campgrounds open up) and the campgrounds offer excellent local nature attractions: fishing, hiking, biking, horesback riding, bird-watching, and much more. If you would like to camp out for the Festival please contact me and let me know.

   New Guests! Anne Dick will do her best to attend the Festival! Anne still lives in Pt. Reyes Station, California and has published her book SEARCH FOR PHILIP K. DICK in a revised edition available for only $17 from: http://www.pointreyescypresspress.com/. Order your copy today! This is a limited press run and all copies will be valuable collector's items soon! You can read reviews of Anne's book here: http://www.orlandoweekly.com/artsculture/story.asp?id=13630>http://www.orlandoweekly.com/artsculture/story.asp?id=13630
and here:

http://www.selfpublishingreview.com/2009/10/14/an-interview-with-anne-r-dick-philip-k-dicks-3rd-wife/

   Coming soon: we have industrious PKD fans working on translating pages of this website into German, Spanish and Polish! Soon we shall have these pages included in the Festival website.

   Hey artists! We shall be posting items for sale on this website soon. If you are an artist please send us a picture suitable for display on website of any PKD-related art you have done and we shall happily put it on sale on the site. A percentage of the sales price will go towards Festival costs. Please contact me for details of how this will work.

=======Entry 2 ================= Feb 2, 2010

   At the beginning of February we have confirmed the festival dates as August 13, 14 and 15th 2010. Location is in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains upslope from Boulder in the mountain towns of Black Hawk, Nederland and Ward. See the map.

   We have two more honored guests joining us! First is Frank C. Bertrand, eminent Philip K. Dick scholar who has contributed to all of the PKD-related zines and newsletters since 1982. Frank has unearthed many obscure interviews with Philip K. Dick and has transcribed them for print and on the internet. We're happy to have him aboard.

   Another welcome addition is Marleen Barr of Fordham University. She will speak on BLADE RUNNER. Marleen is known for her pioneering work in feminist science fiction and teaches in the Department of Communication and Media Studies at Fordham University. She has won the Science Fiction Research Association Pilgrim Award for lifetime achievement in science fiction criticism. Barr is the author of Alien to Feminity: Speculative Fiction and Feminist Theory, Lost in Space: Probing Feminist Science Fiction and Beyond, Feminist Fabulation: Space/Postmodern Fiction and Genre Fission: A New Discouse Practice for Cultural Studies. Barr has edited many anthologies and co-edited the special science fiction issue of PMLA.

   While we are, of course, incredibly pleased to have scholars like Marleen Barr and David Gill address us at the Festival (and we welcome more) I want to make clear that this PKD Festival is primarily for the fans of Philip K. Dick and is not an academic convention. Nor is it a general science fiction convention. This is a Philip K. Dick Festival -- a celebration by his fans who for the first time on American soil can come together and talk with like-minded people. Naturally, it being a festival we shall have music, food, drink, vendors, and all the usual stuff one finds at small festivals everywhere. And we will have a few surprises!

Please watch this space for future developments.

======= Entry 1 =================

   It is now mid-January 2010 and we have some tentative attendees to the PKD Festival!

I've asked Patrick Clark, publisher of PKD OTAKU and a friend of many years to be our Festival Fan Guest of Honor and he has graciously accepted!

Patrick is a PKD fan of many years standing. He has contributed articles to the Philip K. Dick Society Newsletter, For Dickheads Only, Radio Free PKD and has published his own PKD zine PKD OTAKU since at least 1996. His occasional PKD-related zines (like Simulacrum Meltdown and Interference On The Brain Screen) are a welcome find in one's mailbox. Particularly noteworthy to Philip K. Dick fans is Patrick's discovery of the PKD papers held by the Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Also, his definitive resolution of THE UNTELEPORTED MAN problem (uncertainty once reigned over what, exactly, constituted this novel - until Patrick came along) and his work on DR. FUTURITY are noteworthy.
PKD OTAKU can be found online here:
http://pkdotaku.sinnsitiv.de/viereck.htm

Another likely attendee is Jason Koornick who operates www.philipkdickfans.com. When we needed a PKD website Jason stepped in and delivered. He has been operating PKDfans.com for ten years now and is up on all the Hollywood doings and everything to do with Philip K. Dick in this new millenium. Jason's knowledge will be a great asset for all who attend the Festival and have the opportunity to talk to him.

I'm also very happy to announce the probable presence of PKD expert John Fairchild. John lives in California and has contributed to The Philip K. Dick Society Newsletter, For Dickheads Only, Radio Free PKD and PKD OTAKU. John assisted in the editing of THE SELECTED LETTERS OF PHILIP K. DICK (Underwood-Miller Press) and his knowledge of PKD minutae is second to none!

We look forward to seeing you all at the Festival (once we set a final date). I am also contacting PKD fans around the world and inviting them to come to Colorado for this PKD celebration -- and i have a few more experts in mind! I'm excited things are shaping up so well at this early date!

Watch this space for more breaking news -- Lord RC
